This was one of those special weddings where we didn’t get to meet them beforehand, but when we finally did, we were long lost friends. Whitney first called me the day we landed in Rome for vacation in February. I called her back as soon as I could, and apologized for the delay and told her where we were. First she scolded me for calling her back from Italy, and then she told me she had traveled her last year with her mom and told us where to get the best gelato! Whitney and John were having a short and sweet engagement, so we only had to wait a few months to meet them. Thanks to Clay with Signature Weddings and Events for connecting us!
We absolutely love getting to photograph weddings in Apalachicola, and have come to know the area pretty well. Most ceremonies we photograph are held underneath the gazebo at Lafayette Park. Well it turns out that John’s dad designed the gazebo many years ago! He still lives in Apalach with his wife, and I know it was so special to them to watch their son get married in such a special place.

The story behind all of the jewelry is so much fun! The bracelet is what John proposed to Whitney with, and belonged to his grandmother “Mimi”. She lived in New York along the Hudson River, which is where John proposed. The amazing ring in the foreground is what they designed together to be her permanent engagement ring, but she wore her great grandmother’s ring while is was being designed.
Heading downstairs to see her daddy!
I always love when we capture a great expression during the ring exchange, and Whitney’s does not disappoint!
Whitney & John have a soft spot for children’s literacy, so this was a genius idea they did in lieu of a favor! They had little card catalog cards for guests to fill out with their favorite children’s book, and then they plan to purchase that book and donate it. Amazing right?
